What are offsite ads?
When optional vs mandatory
Etsy offsite ads promote your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram and other external sites. If your trailing 365-day revenue on Etsy is under $10,000 USD, you are on the 15% tier and you may opt out. At $10,000 USD or more you are moved to the 12% tier and enrollment is mandatory — you cannot opt out while you remain at or above the threshold.
The $100 cap
Every attributed offsite-ads order is capped at $100 USD. A $1,000 order at 15% is $100, not $150 — the cap saves you $50 on that order. The cap is per attributed order and is the same in every country; it is set in USD.
When offsite ads make sense
Offsite ads usefully lower your customer-acquisition cost when you sell high-margin items where 12–15% still leaves profit. For low-margin items the 15% fee can erase profit — use this calculator to see your break-even and whether the extra volume is worth the fee.
