Selling on Etsy from Australia means you pay the Australia schedule — no regulatory operating fee and no VAT on fees today. The fees behind every sale in Australia
The buyer pays the item price plus any shipping and gift wrap you charge. Etsy deducts its fees from that order value, then you cover product and shipping costs. Six to seven lines can appear depending on the country; the sample near the top shows the Australia breakdown in AUD.
1. Transaction fee — 6.5% of order value
Etsy's commission is 6.5% on everything the buyer pays for goods and delivery: discounted item price plus shipping and gift wrap. Discounts reduce this fee because it is charged on what the buyer actually pays. It is identical in every country — payment processing is what varies locally.
2. Payment processing — 3.0% + A$0.25 per order for domestic buyers, 4.0% + A$0.25 for international buyers
In Australia payment processing is 3.0% + A$0.25 per order for domestic buyers, 4.0% + A$0.25 for international buyers. Domestic covers Australian buyers; other international buyers use the 4.0% + A$0.25 tier. The percentage covers card networks and Etsy Payments; the fixed amount covers per-transaction costs.
3. Listing fee — $0.20 USD per listing sold
Etsy charges $0.20 USD each time a listing sells or renews. For Australia the charge is billed in USD and converted on your invoice; the sample shows it as $0.20 · ≈ A$0.31. Quantity scales this line, not the percentage fees.
4. Regulatory operating fee — Not charged in Australia
Australia has no regulatory fee today. Markets such as the United Kingdom (0.48%), Canada (0.50%) and France (1.14%) do carry one; Australian orders simply omit this line. In the sample this line is order value × —. Markets without a fee — such as the United States and Australia — omit it.
5. Offsite Ads — 15% or 12% when attributed, capped at $100 USD
Offsite Ads are optional until you pass $10,000 in sales in the last 12 months, then participation is automatic. An attributed sale costs 15% under $10,000 and 12% at or over that threshold, capped at $100 USD (≈ A$153). The sample shows both tiers so you can compare. The cap keeps a $1,000 order from costing $150.
6. VAT on Etsy fees — No GST on Etsy fees in Australia today
Etsy does not currently add GST on top of its seller fees for Australia, unlike the United Kingdom (20%) and Germany (19%). When VAT applies it is added on top of the fees above and itself rises with order value.
Two optional adjustments
Currency conversion is 2.5% of order value and applies only when payout currency differs from listing currency — most domestic Australia sales leave it off. Share & Save is a 4% rebate on order value credited when a buyer purchases through a link you shared off Etsy; it appears as a negative fee.

How to keep more of the sale
Price with all costs visible. A product whose materials and shipping cost A$23.50 needs a price covering both plus fees and still leaving margin. A higher price spreads the $0.20 and fixed processing fee over more revenue, improving margin. Model Offsite Ads: if a third of orders came from ads at 15%, blended margin falls by that share — use the Offsite toggle.
