How Etsy fees work in United Kingdom — 2026 guide

Selling on Etsy from United Kingdom means you pay the United Kingdom schedule — 0.48% of the order value and 20% uk vat on the sum of etsy fees. Figures below are calculated for United Kingdom in GBP from the current Etsy fee schedule at etsy.com/legal/fees. Use the calculator above to test any price; this guide explains each line.

The fees behind every sale in United Kingdom

The buyer pays the item price plus any shipping and gift wrap you charge. Etsy deducts its fees from that order value, then you cover product and shipping costs. Six to seven lines can appear depending on the country; the sample near the top shows the United Kingdom breakdown in GBP.

1. Transaction fee — 6.5% of order value

Etsy's commission is 6.5% on everything the buyer pays for goods and delivery: discounted item price plus shipping and gift wrap. Discounts reduce this fee because it is charged on what the buyer actually pays. It is identical in every country — payment processing is what varies locally.

2. Payment processing — 4.0% + £0.20 per order

In United Kingdom payment processing is 4.0% + £0.20 per order. The same rate applies to domestic and international buyers in the United Kingdom. The percentage covers card networks and Etsy Payments; the fixed amount covers per-transaction costs.

3. Listing fee — $0.20 USD per listing sold

Etsy charges $0.20 USD each time a listing sells or renews. For United Kingdom the charge is billed in USD and converted on your invoice; the sample shows it as $0.20 · ≈ £0.16. Quantity scales this line, not the percentage fees.

4. Regulatory operating fee — 0.48% of the order value

Etsy introduced the 0.48% UK fee to recover the UK Digital Services Tax. It applies to the same base as the transaction fee — the discounted item price plus shipping and gift wrap. In the sample this line is order value × 0.48%. Markets without a fee — such as the United States and Australia — omit it.

5. Offsite Ads — 15% or 12% when attributed, capped at $100 USD

Offsite Ads are optional until you pass $10,000 in sales in the last 12 months, then participation is automatic. An attributed sale costs 15% under $10,000 and 12% at or over that threshold, capped at $100 USD (≈ £79). The sample shows both tiers so you can compare. The cap keeps a $1,000 order from costing $150.

6. VAT on Etsy fees — 20% UK VAT on the sum of Etsy fees

VAT is charged on top of the listing, transaction, payment processing and regulatory fees. With total fees of roughly £4–£5 on the sample, UK VAT adds about £0.80–£1.00. When VAT applies it is added on top of the fees above and itself rises with order value.

Two optional adjustments

Currency conversion is 2.5% of order value and applies only when payout currency differs from listing currency — most domestic United Kingdom sales leave it off. Share & Save is a 4% rebate on order value credited when a buyer purchases through a link you shared off Etsy; it appears as a negative fee.

Putting the sample together

The sample uses the Personalised Leather Tote at £58 plus £4.95 shipping charged, with your costs of £22 for leather and making plus £3.80 to ship. Order value is £62.95. Your costs total £25.80. Order value is item price plus shipping charged. Transaction fee, payment processing, regulatory fee where it applies, and the $0.20 listing fee sum to pre-VAT fees; VAT is added where United Kingdom charges it. Net profit is order value minus total fees minus your costs. Margin is profit divided by order value. Change any input above and figures recompute from the same engine — nothing is hardcoded.

How to keep more of the sale

Price with all costs visible. A product whose materials and shipping cost £25.80 needs a price covering both plus fees and still leaving margin. A higher price spreads the $0.20 and fixed processing fee over more revenue, improving margin. Model Offsite Ads: if a third of orders came from ads at 15%, blended margin falls by that share — use the Offsite toggle. Use Share & Save for traffic you already own; its 4% credit offsets roughly two-thirds of the transaction fee. Always verify the current schedule on the official Etsy fees page.

Fees change. Verify the current rates.

Etsy updates its fee schedule and tax rules periodically. The figures above were last verified on 2026-08-01, but always confirm the current rates on the official Etsy fees page before you price or file.

FAQ & Knowledge Base

Frequently asked questions

Clear, country-accurate answers about Etsy seller fees, payment processing, and profit calculations in 2026.

Q1Does Etsy charge transaction fees on shipping costs?

Yes. Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the total amount paid by the buyer, which includes the item price, shipping fees charged, and gift wrapping. For example, if you charge £10.00 for shipping in United Kingdom, Etsy deducts £0.65 for transaction fees plus payment processing on that shipping amount. Shipping revenue is never exempt from Etsy seller fees. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q2How does the listing fee work on multi-quantity Etsy sales?

Etsy charges a flat listing fee of $0.20 USD (approximately £0.16) each time an item is created or renewed. When a buyer purchases multiple quantities in a single transaction (for example, 3 items), you are charged the initial $0.20 USD listing fee plus a $0.20 USD auto-renewal fee for each additional unit sold (£0.47 total). The listing fee renews automatically after each sale until inventory reaches zero. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q3How much does Etsy take from a sale in 2026?

In 2026, Etsy takes a multi-part fee stack comprising a $0.20 USD (£0.16) listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, and a domestic payment processing fee (4.0% + £0.20 in United Kingdom), plus a 0.48% Regulatory Operating Fee, and 20% VAT assessed on Etsy fees. On a standard £55.00 sale in United Kingdom, Etsy takes approximately £7.73 in total marketplace deductions (an effective rate of 14.05%) before any optional advertising or promotional discounts. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q4Is there a maximum cap on Etsy Offsite Ads fees?

Yes. Etsy caps the Offsite Ads fee at $100 USD (approximately £79.00) per attributed order, regardless of how high the order value is. If you are on the 15% standard tier, an order of $1,000 USD incurs a $100 USD fee instead of $150 USD. Sellers with under $10,000 USD in annual revenue pay 15% and can opt out, while sellers making $10,000 USD or more pay 12% mandatory. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q5What is the Regulatory Operating Fee on Etsy?

The Regulatory Operating Fee is a country-specific surcharge Etsy charges sellers in certain jurisdictions to offset local Digital Services Taxes and regulatory compliance costs. In United Kingdom, the fee is 0.48% (enacted due to local Digital Services Taxes). It is calculated as a percentage of the total item price plus shipping charged to the buyer. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q6Is VAT charged on Etsy seller fees?

In many countries outside the US, Etsy is required to charge Value Added Tax (VAT) or Goods and Services Tax (GST) on seller processing and service fees. In United Kingdom, VAT on seller fees is 20% (Etsy adds 20% UK VAT on top of its seller fees.). VAT is assessed on the fee amount itself, not on your retail item price. If VAT-registered, you may reclaim this. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q7How does the Etsy Share & Save program rebate work?

Etsy's Share & Save program rewards sellers who drive their own traffic. When a customer purchases through your unique trackable link, Etsy gives you a 4% refund on the item price, reducing your effective transaction fee from 6.5% to 2.5%. The rebate appears on your payment account as a credit against transaction fees. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q8How do I calculate listing prices for a target profit margin on Etsy?

To hit a target profit margin, you must price items high enough so that after deducting Etsy's listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, 4.0% + £0.20 processing fee, local regulatory fees, VAT on fees, and your material/shipping costs, your required net income remains. You can switch this tool to Reverse Pricing mode above to automatically solve for the exact required listing price. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q9How can I export Etsy fee calculation data to Excel or Google Sheets?

You can export your calculations instantly by clicking "Download CSV" or "Copy for Excel" in the export bar of this calculator. We also offer a free downloadable Excel and Google Sheets template pre-loaded with official 2026 fee formulas for all 10 countries with zero macro requirements. Use the calculator above or download the free spreadsheet template from our tools hub.

Q10What is the difference between Etsy Payments and PayPal fees?

In countries with integrated Etsy Payments, all customer payments (including PayPal) are processed directly through Etsy at Etsy's standard country processing rate (4.0% + £0.20 in United Kingdom). Standalone PayPal processing (available only in non-Etsy Payments regions) charges PayPal's merchant rate (typically 2.9% + $0.30 USD) instead. Use the PayPal fee calculator in our tools section to compare exact costs. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.

Q11Are Etsy fees different for digital products versus physical or Print-on-Demand items?

Etsy charges the exact same percentage fees (6.5% transaction, standard payment processing, and $0.20 USD listing) regardless of whether your item is physical, digital, or print-on-demand. However, digital products incur zero shipping fees and zero shipping transaction fees, resulting in higher overall profit margins. For print-on-demand items, production and fulfillment costs must be accounted for before calculating net margin. Use the calculator above to model your product type.

Q12How does currency conversion work if I sell internationally on Etsy?

If your listing currency differs from your payment account's bank currency, Etsy applies a 2.5% currency conversion fee on the total sale amount. To avoid this fee, always list your items in the domestic currency of your payment bank account. You can toggle the currency conversion fee in the calculator above to see its impact on your net revenue. Use the calculator above to run your own numbers.
